Another Party Heard From

Ashley Hall Roberts confirms a rumor: “2007 was a milestone year—had our first child and turned 40—all within six weeks of each other. We are truly blessed with a beautiful girl named Rachel Hall Roberts. She was born in April. Our lives have changed forever for the better, and we are excited about the journey ahead.”

In other news, Salil (Kumar) Mehra reports that he is now a full Professor at Temple Law School (he already had tenure. Congratulations!

And Mike Frankel is prepping for his upcoming wedding: "In an effort to add some class to my wedding, I’ve asked Charlie Torres to be my best man.  The added benefit is that he’ll be organizing a bachelor party to New Orleans that is sure to be memorable (at least to the extent that I remember anything).  I also had the incredible honor and distinct pleasure of being asked to join the University of Chicago Alumni Board of Governors.  Along with 4 degrees from UC I also have a niece in the class of 2010!! In case you hadn’t heard, Randy Lewis and his wife Cait welcomed a lovely daughter to the family this winter and Charlie Torres got engaged to his girlfriend Natalia last month.  Wayne Yu still looks like a teenager. Derex Walker - a die-hard NY’er – is loving life in LA."

Column Updates are Rolling In

Kortney Kloppe-Orton reports that Ashley Hall Roberts had a baby girl named Rachel in May!

Katherine Strandburg, currently an Associate Professor of Law at DePaul, writes, "Both of my daughters will be in college next year -- Ariana as a freshman at Swarthmore and Danielle as a senior at NYU.  That means that we are empty-nesters and I have a chance for a visit away from Chicago.  Next year I'll be a visiting faculty member at NYU School of Law."

Apparently Jeff Richards got married last weekend - I hope to get a report when he returns from his honeymoon.

Lori Singer Meyer reports: "My son is now 2 years old, and whereas I have not yet gone back to work I've been keeping busy.  After Hurricane Katrina I went down to New Orleans to help in the animal relief efforts, and after returning home I worked as a lawyer pro bono for over a year assisting owners recover their animals.  I've also been the American organizer of a Symposium including 3 of the Supreme Court justices being held by the U.S. Mission to the E.U. in Brussels this summer.  And then there are all my activities as "First Lady" of the Federalist Society.  However, my husband, Eugene Meyer, and I are looking forward to the time when I can return to paying work and we can start fixing up the fixer-upper house we purchased a few years ago."

Rachel Laser writes (as always, on behalf of her and Mark Davies): "Mark is loving his new job at O'Melveny and Myers, helping to run the appellate group there.  I am still enjoying my foray into inside-the-beltway politics at Third Way - and will soon be putting out a paper on shared values between progressives and Evangelicals as part of the Culture Project that I direct.  The kids are really great-Emily is turning 10 at the end of this month (!), and still a soccer studette and big reader, Nicole (8) loves soccer and ballet, and Xander (6) is a baseball (and soccer) kind of guy. We hope everyone is doing great and welcome calls and visits in DC!  Just email rachel_laser (at) yahoo.com."

And last, but not least, Sharilyn "Sam" Maphis Green wrote in: "We are all doing great here in DC and enjoying the summer.  Our daughter, Meredith, is now 18 months old, and has had a full and truly miraculous recovery.  She is walking and talking, and generally keeps me going non-stop all day.  The doctors are as shocked as we are that she apparently has no developmental delays of any kind as a result of her premature birth.  She's been completely healthy for the last year - hasn't even caught a cold.  It has been an amazing rollercoaster for us and it is so nice now just to have to contend with the usual ups and downs of life with a toddler.  I am staying home with her for the time being, and have no idea what I might do career wise in the future.  For now we are just enjoying spending the summer at the playground, playing with friends and traveling to see family.   Attached is a picture of Meredith's in her baptism gown.  Her godmother made the dress out of my wedding dress.  Too sweet, I know.  Don't let the picture fool you though - she may look like a little angel but the cap is covering up her horns!  She is the feistiest, most willful child I have ever seen (and I can't imagine where she got that from).  Best wishes to everyone!"
