Anecdotes

- As regular readers of this blog will know, Rafi has been told not to get out of bed until it is 6am.  The corollary is that if he has to go to the bathroom, he can get out of bed.  Last night for at least the 2nd time, I heard him get up in the middle of the night and go pee (he uses our bathroom and wouldn't think to close the door to our room).  Both times, I heard him open the door, heard him pee, heard him flush and then waited for him to come in and get me.  Both times, I was pleasantly surprised as he just went back to bed. 

- Yesterday, Rafi asks me when can he go to another Cubs game. I responded that there are no more Cubs games at Wrigley Field except the Playoffs. Big mistake.  "Daddy can I go to a playoff game".  There is no good way to say "Son, I love you very much, but you ain't gettin my playoff tickets and I know your mother isn't giving hers up either."

Dear Dear Dear

A conversation in the car this morning. Relevant bit ot knowledge: the Letter of the Week at school this week is "M." At circle time each day, the teachers ask the kids for M words to add to their list.

Me: Rafi, what new M words should you add today?
Rafi: I don't know, Mommy - I need something.
Me: What about my name?
Rafi: Mommy is already on the list! [Note: I think every kid added that one on Monday.]
Me: No, Rafi, my real name. What's my real name?
Rafi: Mommy!(giggle)
Me: No, Rafi, my NAME.
Rafi: I dunno....
Me: Rafi, what does Daddy call me?
Rafi: (pause) Dear?

We're Raisin' This Boy Right

Email from one of the parents of a girl in Rafi's class yesterday:

"Charlotte and I went to the Cubs game last night. When Charlotte came into class the first person she told was Rafi. She say,"Raf, Raf, I went to the Cubs game yesterday." And Rafi looks at her and says "You saw the no-hitter!" It was a typical water cooler conversation, but they don't have a water cooler."

We have had some issues with Rafi getting out of bed in the middle of the night.  Three or 4 days ago, he woke up in the middle of the night and walked into our room.  I was asleep when I awoke to Marsha yelling at Rafi, "Rafi go back to bed'.  Amazingly he did without either of us going with him. Another night, he got up and came into our room and the next thing I knew he was crawling into bed next to me.  I might have let him stay but when he complained about my pillow and wanted his own, I just took him back to his own bed.

So with that introduction, we have a new rule in the Nagorsky house "No getting out of bed before 6:00 unless you have to go potty!" and the corollary "If you have to go potty, go potty and go back to bed". 

Which leads us to Steven Hawking and Rafi's attempt to distort the space time continuum.  At 5:25 this morning or so, Rafi woke me up yelling.  I went into his room and he announced, "Daddy the clock won't turn to six o'clock."

Maybe Walking Soon?

Sam is not walking yet.  But yesterday, I saw him stand up on this own for a couple of seconds.   He also will walk with you just holding one of his hands and he can balance otherwise.  I tried to get Rafi to hold his hand leaving the J yesterday but Rafi didn't quite get the hang of it.  However, I did have a Kodak moment as we were leaving with Rafi holding one of Sam's hands and my holding the others.  At least, for 4 or 5 steps until Rafi wanted to run and I picked Sam up. - BRN

Elmo's Cell Phone

Sometime a couple of months back, Sam turned into a wiggle-worm on the changing table.  He always tries to turn over, usually tries to crawl over to the assorted creams and lotions and play with them and once I caught him as he took a header off the changing table. 

Alas, a couple of days ago I was in the playroom with the kids going through the various bins (I think I was actually looking for the remote control car to go with the remote control which I had but not the car) when I found the Elmo Cell Phone.  For those not familiar with this particular toy, it ranks very high on the parental annoyance scale.  It plays the Elmo theme song when you open it and says "Thanks for calling!!" when you close it.  As any child will open and close the phone as many as 1,000 time in a minute, it is constantly going back and for from singing two notes of Elmo's song to "Thanks for" before the process repeats the aforementioned 1,000 times. 

While the phone is unbelievably annoying, it has a nice ability to keep Sam calm on the changing table.  You give him the phone and he seems to able to play with for the 3 minutes you need to change his diaper and/or his clothes.
