Rafi speaks! Well, sort of. For the past two weeks or so, there has been one consistent word - "Buh-bye." It's clear as day (complete with ah-ee on the end), and used appropriately. Rafi says buh-bye to me (and all the other parents) when I leave the room dropping him at school, to visitors when they leave the apartment, to everyone when he leaves somewhere, etc. He also says it every time we open the back door, pick up our keys, go near the car, or put on his or our coats. It amazes me how much he's figured out.
Rafi is definitely getting closer to really talking. He babbles all the time - there's a running commentary whenever he crawls anywhere or does anything, and he seems to be starting to connect babbling with objects. He says "bah" sometimes when he sees a ball, and "buh" for books, but it's not consistent. He does, however, know who Mommy and Daddy are by name, and can point to things when you tell him to. He's getting very good with his body parts - he can point to his head, tummy, nose, and feet consistently, and eyes, ears, and teeth less so.
Walking isn't quite there yet either. He can take steps, and he does, but so far, he's pretty uninterested - crawling is still faster, so he crawls. We're not in any rush, really, but it would be nice for him to be able to run around wtih his friends at school.
It's been a fun few weeks - Rafi has spent some time with Bubbe and Poppa Zayde, gone to a 1st birthday party for his friend Jack, and had a play date with his friend Yelena.
He's also continued to regularly sacrifice our brooms and mops to the great god in the washing machine, to climb into anything possible, play the piano, and rip apart his pull-the-tab book. Basically, status quo. He has enjoyed one new toy - we got him a ukelele! He's been obsessing over guitars for a while now, so we figured he'd enjoy one more his size. He loves to pluck the strings and giggles like mad when it makes noise!
Oh, one last thing - we had to go to the doctor last week for a little rash. The only good part about an unscheduled trip to the doctor is finding out ho much Rafi weighs! As of last Tuesday, he weighed 24 lbs, 15.75 ounces. So by now, we have a 25 pounder!
Happy belated birthday to Aunt Susan and Cousin Steven!
